Course on Empirical Methods in Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering by Dr. Nick Barton

The new ISRM course on "Empirical Methods in Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering " was recorded in 2021 by Dr. Nick Barton, and is available on the ISRM website, in open access.

It comprises some examples of empirical methods in rock mechanics and rock engineering: for tunnelling, rock joints, rock masses, and rock slopes, cliffs and mountains (Q, QTBM, JRC, JCS, QSLOPE and other topics)

Dr Nick Barton, an ISRM Fellow and recipient of the 2011 Müller Award of the ISRM. The course has four parts:

Part 1 - The many faces of Q
Part 2 - Shear Strength of Rock, Rock Joints, etc.
Part 3 - Failure Modes in Rock Masses
Part 4 - TBM Performance and Prognosis
