Terms of Reference

  • To discuss, advance and develop issues related to the occurrence, investigation and properties of soft rocks and indurated soils and their utilization in engineering works, either as construction materials or as foundation massifs.
  • Encouraging the collaboration and exchange of information of those dealing with research and investigation as well as with practical works with these materials, in order to foster the knowledge on the subject.
  • Contributing to the three sister geotechnical societies, ISRM, ISSMGE and IAEG, for congresses, symposia and other technical events, giving incentive for inclusion of special sessions on the subject.
  • To examine and approve or reject proposed events on the subject and establish the condition for the realization of such events.
  • Addressing issues presented to the committee by the Presidents of ISRM, ISSMGE and IAEG.
  • To follow the directives of FIGS and report to the Presidents on advances and progress of the Committee.

TENTATIVE TECHNICAL OBJECTIVES

Besides the Terms of Reference the JTC-7 will seek to attain the following objectives:

  • Establish a Data Bank on physical and mechanical properties as well as on bibliographic references about the pertinent materials;
  • Recommend promising lines of research;
  • Incentive investigation on important issues of such materials, as: effect of structure and fabric on the properties, development of adequate techniques for field and laboratory sampling and testing, and realization of test sites for correlations of in situ and laboratory testing.
  • Integrate the web page of the sponsor society for interchange of information about the Committee.
