Terms of Reference

Purpose of the Commission

  • to discuss and develop best approaches to address world challenging problems and to initiate new scientific directions in coupled THMC research through benchmarking and brainstorming meetings;
  • to hold CouFrac to bring scientists working on this topic together, communicate, collaborate and bridge the gap of the research across countries, projects and physical fields;
  • to strengthen rock mechanics in fields such as nuclear wastes disposal, petroleum engineering, geothermal exploitation and carbon sequestration;
  • to encourage collaboration of those who practice in coupled THMC analysis.

Product of the Commission

  • A document summarizing current approaches and state of art of coupled THMC processes modelling, supporting by the Proceedings of the International Conference on Coupled Processes in Fractured Geological Media: Observation, Modeling, and Application (CouFrac);
  • Special issues in top international journals after CouFrac conferences;
  • ‘Chin-Fu Tsang Coupled Processes Award’ during each CouFrac conference for identifying outstanding early career scientists in this field.
